12 Panchayats in Jind unite to motivate students

12 village panchayats in Jind district in Haryana, have combined resources to gift smart tablets to govt, school students who have done well in the recently conducted Class X and XII exams. This year in Jind the government school students have done better compared to their counter parts studying in private schools

The village panchayats involved in the initiative — Budha Khera Lather, Lazwana Kalana, Karsola, Shadipur, Julana, Brahmanwas, Deshkhera, Rajgarh, Malvi, Kamach Khera, Devrar and Kila Jafragarh — collected Rs 70 lakh in donations to buy tablets and books as gifts for bright students, their parents and teachers. As many as 300 students —150 boys and 150 girls — of 25 villages, their parents and 200 teachers were honoured. The students were given a tablet along with a book based on life of Swami Vivekanand

A group of girl students, summarised the initiative as “This honour has made us feel proud and motivated us to pursue higher studies. We appreciate the initiative taken by panchayats.” A resident echoed similar thought and said “The initiative would rejuvenate the education system in government-run schools. Today, we are living in a digital era and students of government schools usually don’t get facilities provided in private schools. So, together with the residents of nearby villages, we have decided to support them in future also and honour meritorious students every year”.

The group has also decided to reward schools who maintain school building and promote tree plantation. “Based on these two criteria, our committee will give Rs 1.50 lakh to the school that bags the first position, Rs 1 lakh to second ranker and Rs 50,000 to third position,” he added.

Former Punjab and Haryana high court judge Justice S S Saron (retd), who also attended the programme, said the initiative started by these 12 villages should be lauded and adopted by every village in the state as it would motivate students to excel in studies
